A young man or woman sits at my psychic reading table at a high school grad night celebration. Or a sixty-something year-old man comes to my office, or a lawyer in Florida calls for a telephone reading. “What’s going to happen in my future?” she asks. When I probe a bit deeper, it turns out that at least one of the questions is really “What’s going to happen in my love life?”

Clients often hesitate to ask about romance directly, for fear of sounding trite, or impractical, or even immature. Yet love - that most important connection to our real selves - is always on our minds in one way or another, and relationship and solitude are two of the ways we learn more about it. Why wouldn’t we wonder about it?

Yet finding out about relationships and romance turns out to be complex. It’s as if you ask a friend about a wonderful, intriguing movie. If you find out that the romantic lead in the film is a 6’4 blonde man who works in the field of higher education and has a dog named Huckleberry, you still haven’t actually seen the movie. Nor have you experienced the near-misses and subsequent exhilaration which are part of the story, or the profound meaning which reveals itself just before the closing credits roll. All you know is a few details. You might even find that you pay less attention or completely ignore characters in the story who aren’t blonde, or don’t have dogs, since obviously they’re irrelevant to the main theme, and thereby accidentally miss crucial plot points of the whole movie.

So a precognitive reading is not simply a matter of conveying information. In meditation or in dreams, you’ll often get hints and suggestions, and an accurate reading can illuminate an entire issue around relationship and even change your experience very quickly, along with providing details. But the universe won’t and can’t show you precisely how the movie turns out, for you’d miss the immense creativity you have as your own whimsical director.

Consider Siberia: it’s a vast region of 5.2 million square miles, a fact difficult to comprehend. Siberia has 8 time zones, through which you would pass if you took the Trans-Siberian Railway, a seven day trip from Moscow to Vladivostok. Most people picture Siberia as a land of howling arctic wastes sprinkled with penal colonies. But the truth is more complex. Western Siberia is covered by a swampy plain, the central plateau is a tangle of thick forest, the east reveals soaring mountaintops. Only the extreme north is actual tundra, with temperatures below -68 Centigrade in winter.

But you won’t meet the couple on the train who insists on sharing their delicious farm-fresh dinner with you, or hear the poignant story which the widow tells you about her husband relocating their family to Novosibirsk, or listen with amazement as the young gymnast tells you about her spine-tingling rafting trip in Southern Siberia.

So there’s lots to be said in favor of leaving one’s comfortable, familiar surroundings, being willing to venture into unknown territory with companions you’ve yet to meet and stories you’ve yet to live out. A psychic reading can be a terrific, helpful roadmap - but don’t forget to sit back and enjoy the ride.
